“This form cannot be embedded”: file upload questions

Updated 2026-10-17. Sources are linked inline; we cite Google's own help pages where possible.

If your Google Form contains a File upload question, the Send → Embed tab shows “This form cannot be embedded because it makes use of File Upload questions” instead of an embed code (reported here). The reason: uploading requires a Google sign-in (Google), and Google's sign-in page won't load inside another website's frame.

What doesn't work

What works

  1. Link instead of embed. Put a button on your site that opens the form in a new tab. Uploaders still need to sign in.
  2. Split the form. Embed the Google Form without the File upload question, and put a separate no-login upload link or widget next to it. Ask for the same email in both so you can match them.
  3. Use an upload tool built to embed. Several third-party uploaders offer embed codes on paid plans.

Where CatchFolder fits

CatchFolder's upload page is a normal web page that anyone can open without signing in, so you can link to it from your site or form, and files land in your own Drive. You can also embed it with an iframe (snippet in the setup guide): the app allows framing, unlike a Google Form with a File upload question.

Want a link anyone can upload to, straight into your Drive? CatchFolder gives you an upload link that needs no Google account and drops files into a folder in your own Google Drive. Early access: $12 for a 30-day Event Pass, with your license and setup guide right after checkout and a full refund if it doesn't work for you within 21 days. See how it works and pricing →

FAQ

Why can't I embed a Google Form with a file upload question?

Because uploading requires a Google sign-in, and Google's sign-in page can't run inside another website's frame. Google withholds the embed code for such forms.

How do I fix 'docs.google.com refused to connect' in an embedded form?

It usually means the form has a File upload question or requires sign-in. Link to the form instead, or remove the upload question and collect files with a separate no-login upload link.

Can I embed just the upload part?

Not with Google Forms. Use a separate upload tool that supports embedding or linking.
